Tutorials and TRF's

What are TRF's?

Twice a week students in the AVID elective are split into small groups where students work through content from a core class. A tutor is placed with each group. The students and tutor use inquiry based questions to guide the student presenter to the correct answer. THEY DO NOT GIVE ANSWERS.

What are Tutorials?

Tutorials vs. Tutors

* All students must arrive at the tutorials prepared with pre-work completed and specific questions written in a Tutorial Request Form (TRF). If they believe they have no questions regarding any homework, school work, quiz or test in any of their classes, they must still attend the tutorial with a completed TRF in which they ask a question that further explores the material they are studying in any of their classes.

* Questions are high level thinking questions.

* Students work and discuss in collaborative group.

* Students must reflect on their own participation in the groups and on how the group worked together.

The tutorial request form or TRF is due at the beginning of class on Tuesday's and Thursday's (the days we run tutorials).

Students will complete the TRF using content from a core content class. Students recognize a point of confusion (POC) from either class notes, homework, tests, or quizzes.

Students complete the form to ensure understanding of key vocabulary and prior knowledge. They then present their point of confusion during tutorials.
